Ultrasound Therapy

Superficial heat treatments are effective up to 1 cm depth of tissues, they cannot increase tissue temperature deeper, so deep heating applications such as Therapeutic Ultrasound can increase tissue temperature up to 3 cm or more depth. Therapeutic ultrasound (US) is a physical therapy method applied by sending high-frequency sound waves to the tissues with the help of a probe. US energy is absorbed in the tissues due to acoustic impedance and turns into heat energy, so it has a direct effect on cells and healing.

Indications

• In all periods except acute periods of degenerative and inflammatory diseases
• In extra-articular involvement of rheumatic diseases such as bursitis and periarthritis
• In the post-acute period of sports injury and post-traumatic painful situations or in the acute periods
  of soft tissue traumas

Contraindications

• Acute infections
• In acute periods of rheumatic diseases
• On malignant and benign tumours
• Areas that have recently undergone radiotherapy
• Haemophilia, hemarthrosis, or large hematomas
• In arterial and venous circulation disorders
• On the water-filled cavities (eye, heart, testicles, etc.) and the uterus of the pregnant
• Lesion areas in cases such as laminectomy
• Areas with sensory impairments
• Gonads and epiphysial plates
• Vagus or cervical ganglia
• Chest area in patients with a pacemaker
